Built by a school IT admin

Shepherd started in a school, not a sales deck. It was written by the person who keeps a private Christian K-12 school’s Chromebooks running, and it still filters that school every day.

Where it started

Our first school needed what every school needs from a filter: policies that follow the bell schedule, teachers who can see their class, a way to notice a child in trouble, and reports a principal can read. The commercial filters did those things at district prices, with district complexity.

So its IT administrator built one. It now serves about 550 students and staff, and handles about 118,000 requests on a school day.

Shepherd Filter is a service of Timothy Roe Computer Services, LLC, the IT company behind it.

A fence, not a cage

A good filter keeps out what children should not see and gets out of the way of learning. Most of a school day should never meet a block page.

Watch with care, not suspicion

Smart detect exists to help a counselor notice a student who is struggling, not to build a file on every child. Flags go to people you choose, and every review is recorded.

Teachers first

A blocked lesson site costs a teacher the class period. Requests, per-video YouTube rules and focus mode are there so teachers get an answer in minutes.

Your data is your school’s

We keep it in the United States, never sell it, and delete it when you leave.

Who Shepherd is for

Christian and private K-12 schools first, and small districts after them: schools on Google Workspace with managed Chromebooks, where the IT team is a few people or one.

If that is your school, we would like to hear from you, whether or not you are ready to switch.
